Before Meade County Water District was formed, most Meade County residents used wells or cisterns for their water needs. In 1983, however, George W. Thomas sought to develop a more progressive water system for the people and businesses in the community. Thomas, a local entrepreneur, became first commissioner of the newly created Meade County Water District, along with fellow commissioners Melvin Dowell and Ray Griffee.
We continue to expand throughout the county, and have grown from providing service to 230 consumers in 1986 to over 5,000 today, with plans to reach even further.
